Shelter and power

Lviv lies in the west of Ukraine, a long way from the front line, and daily life goes on much as usual. Air-raid alerts do happen here as well, and we are prepared for them. Here is exactly what Rudolfo Hotel has in place, and what to do if an alert is issued during your stay.

Shelter in the building

Our shelter is inside the hotel, so you never have to go out onto the street. It is for guests and staff, and it is open during every alert, day or night.

  • Food and drinking water are available in the shelter
  • Wi-Fi works in the shelter, so you can stay online and let your family know you are all right
  • An independent power supply keeps light and internet running
  • Our staff are there to help you

The way to the shelter is signposted and is shown to you at check-in. If you would like to see it before you settle in, just ask at reception; we are happy to show you the way.

Power supply

The hotel has its own backup generator. When mains power fails, the system switches over automatically and supplies the entire hotel for several days at a time. Lighting, heating and cooling, water supply, the lift, Wi-Fi and reception keep working.

In practice, a power cut in the city makes no difference to your stay. Your room stays lit and warm, your devices stay charged, and your connection stays up.

Air-raid alerts on your phone

Please do not rely on street sirens alone. We recommend the official app and, in addition, the official Telegram channel; both are free.

The official Air Alert app (Повітряна тривога)

The app stores list it under its Ukrainian name only, so please use these direct links, ideally before you travel:

  1. Install the app. It is free, needs no registration and is available in English. The developer shown in the store is Ajax Systems.
  2. Allow notifications. On an iPhone, also allow ‘Critical Alerts’, so that the alert sounds even when your phone is on silent.
  3. Choose Lviv district (Львівський район); the city of Lviv belongs to it. You are then notified for the district and for the whole Lviv region, but not for other districts.

Good to know: every day at 9 am the app sends a notification for the national minute of silence. This is not an air-raid alert.

The official Telegram channel

If you use Telegram, you can also follow t.me/dczloda, the official air-raid alert channel of the Lviv region, run by the regional administration’s civil protection department. You will recognise it by its name, ‘Оповіщення ЦЗ’, and by its more than 300,000 subscribers; it carries no verification tick. Alerts and all-clears are posted in English as well as in Ukrainian. A post applies to the hotel when it names Lviv region or Lviv district; alerts and all-clears for other districts do not. The channel is not ours: besides alerts it carries the department’s own posts, in Ukrainian only.

The app and the channel both need an internet connection, so please do not rely on a single source.

If an air-raid alert is issued

Since September 2026 Ukraine has used two danger levels: yellow for a drone threat and red for a missile threat or a massed attack.

  1. Alerts are announced in the app and in the Telegram channel, and by the city’s sirens and loudspeakers.
  2. Red level: please go to the shelter straight away. Yellow level: the shelter is open as well, and we recommend going there; if you stay in your room, be ready to go at once. If no level is shown, treat the alert as red.
  3. When you go to the shelter, take your phone, documents and a jacket. Use the stairs, not the lift. Do not wait to be collected: our staff will be on hand and will show you the way.
  4. Stay in the shelter until the all-clear for Lviv district or the Lviv region. Do not wait for a second siren: the all-clear is a spoken announcement over the city’s loudspeakers, and it also appears in the app and in the Telegram channel (‘Air raid alert has ended’). Our staff will tell you as well.
  5. Please do not photograph or film air defence at work or the site of a strike, and do not post such images: publishing them is a criminal offence in Ukraine.

Curfew

In Lviv a curfew currently applies every night from midnight to 5 am. Please be back at the hotel before midnight. Arriving after midnight? Please let us know in advance.

Emergency numbers in Ukraine

  • 112: general emergency number; some operators speak English
  • 101: fire and rescue service
  • 102: police
  • 103: ambulance
  • +380 (32) 23-68-000: our reception, staffed 24 hours a day

In your room

  • Lock your door and use the additional latch whenever you are in your room.
  • Do not open the door without checking who is outside. If someone says they are hotel staff, call reception and we will check.
  • Keep valuables and documents in the strongbox in your room or at reception.
  • Do not leave your key card where it can be picked up.
  • If anything seems out of place, tell reception at once.

Fire

The building is fitted with smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. In case of fire, leave by the stairs, never by the lift, and notify reception or call 101.

If anything here is still unclear, write to us at info@rudolfo.ua or call reception. We would rather answer one more question than have you arrive uncertain.

Updated: 11 October 2026. Alert rules and curfew hours can change at short notice.
